Editorial overview
What it is
Sponge Break is a physics-based co-op survival game in which one to four players control sponges attempting to escape down a treacherous river aboard a fragile raft, steering through rapids, environmental hazards, and hostile wildlife. It supports drop-in co-op and solo play, and features proximity voice chat with sponges that lip-sync to player speech. Players use a plunger that doubles as a grappling hook, throw loose objects, and store loot in a shared raft stash, while a physics system governs raft handling and damage. Progression is level-based across multiple biomes such as sewers, rivers, and abandoned facilities, with safehouses between levels for repairing, reviving, and restocking, alongside over 100 unlockable cosmetic options, emotes, controller support, and a range of side activities.
The premise
Four Sponges are trying to escape from the prison of the kitchen sink. Its a long and dangerous trip. Will they survive?
